South East London Music Hub

Since 2012

Bexley Music received direct funding from the Department for Education (DfE) and Arts Council England to act as the Lead Organisation for the Bexley Music Education Hub. In this capacity, we have coordinated the delivery of the National Plan for Music Education (NPME) across the borough, working in partnership with a range of organisations.

The New National Plan

The updated NPME, The Power of Music to Change Lives, set out the DfE’s intention to reduce the number of Music Hubs in England from 116 to 43. From 1 September 2024, Bexley Music—part of London South East Academies Trust—became a Principal Partner in the newly formed South East London Music Hub. This hub brings together Bexley Music, Bromley Youth Music Trust, Royal Greenwich Music Service (Royal Borough of Greenwich), Southwark Music (Southwark Council), and Lambeth Music Service (Lambeth Council).

Wider Hub Network

The expanded hub network will include partner organisations such as ArtsTrain, Sound Connections, ABRSM (exam board), Trinity Laban, Kinetika Bloco, and many others. While Bexley Music (LSEAT) continues to operate as an autonomous Music Service, responsible for music education and partnerships within the borough of Bexley, we will work collaboratively with the other Principal Partners in SELMH to shape the strategic development of music education across South East London.
